The Zagreb Times Sinke

The Croatian Capital of Zagreb has confirmed its status of being one of Europe’s greatest winter destinations. For the second time in the row, the heart of Croatian state features the best Christmas Fair of the Old Continent. This was the conclusion of influential website Europe’s Best Destinations, after their visitors voted in an online pool.

Thus Zagreb managed to surpass the most popular Christmas fair localities, including those in Strasbourg in France and Vienna in Austria. The award is that much valuable, as it repeats the success of the previous year, when Zagreb was also proclaimed a winner.

Every year, the Croatian Capital organizes a large fair, with several dozens of commercial booths inhabiting the city’s parks, squares and streets. Everything is ornamented and decorated in Christmas colors and in accordance with Croatian traditions. It is a fascinating spot for a foreign tourist, especially to the one interested in local customs and cuisine.

The booths offer various items, most of which can be lovely Christmas presents. One can find small hand-crafted jewelry pieces, but also luxurious products such as bottles of notable wine brands. Of course, food can be found on every corner, so resistance to fritulas is futile. You won’t escape their tasty sweet aroma.

Zagreb Christmas Fair is among many events and gatherings annually organized in Croatia’s charming capital. Just a few decades ago, the city was not in the center of globetrotter’s attention, and served mainly as a stop on the way to the country’s lovely coast. However, thanks to efforts of the local Tourist Board and large number of newly opened sites of interest, Zagreb became a very desirable location on European map. Every year, thousands of people opt to spend a couple of days in its streets and squares.
