Have a Cup in the Classy Finjak Café Bar
It has been a year since British newspaper The Guardian added Zagreb to its list of Best Winter City Break localities. The Croatian capital has received the status due to many unique features, one of them being a great-looking café bar called Finjak. The owners decided to keep the buzz alive and broaden the experience with some new touches.
The word “finjak” is actually Zagreb slang for class, and the name suits the locality well. It is among the most photographed gathering places in Zagreb, and one of the unsung heroes of Instagram. You can find it on address Vlaska Street 78, which is in relative center of Croatian Capital.
Owned by family Svirac, Finjak has 30 square meters in size, its space divided on smoking and non-smoking area. “I always had a clear vision of how the final result will look like,” Denis Svirac explained, showing us the charming interior. “It took three months, but once the works were over, we were all very delighted.”
Denis is a student at Fine Arts Academy in Zagreb, while his parents Zeljko and Snjezana are experts in Antique restoration. Such set of skills could not disappoint when designing a classy bar, and the interior features many items from the family heritage.
“We wanted to give a vibe of old Zagreb, therefore we inserted a lot of old exhibits in the interior. It really confirms the fact that Croatian Capital was equally stunning as Vienna or Paris in its old days. The floor tiles wwere arranged by our friends from Spain, which work renovations of the ancient castles.”
Finjak also has an outdoor terrace, featuring chairs from Zagreb’s renowned Esplanade Hotel. Visitors can enjoy French teas and tasty toasts, while the coffee quality is assured by Nik Orosi, the Europe’s best barista.
In every case, when in visit of Zagreb, find some time to be classy in Finjak! Check out our image gallery below, and learn why the spot got so much attention since its founding.
