Not all charming towns in Croatia are of coastal nature. Buje can be found in Croatia’s Istria region, about 13 kilometers away from the Adriatic shores. It is a lovely settlement with long history and very firm tradition of tourism. Its regions were populated even in distant Roman Times, making Buje one of the eldest urban settlements on Croatian soil. Surrounded with plains and slopes of nearby mountains, Buje is also known for its Church of Our Lady of Mercy. The story behind this Baroque structure describes a statue of Virgin Mary that couldn’t be moved, which was interpreted by locals as a sign where the Church has to be built.
