The Dubrovnik Times Sinke

Croatia celebrated an important holiday on August 15th, called the Assumption of Mary. It is a religious event celebrating Virgin’s Mary ascension to Heaven. The tale is not mentioned in the Bible, but is a part of oral canon to Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Churches.  The day involves religious processions through the streets, usually accompanying works of art depicting Jesus’ mother.

Even non-religious persons enjoy the spectacle of procession, especially when it is bonded with fancy scenery. The photo above was taken in Dubrovnik’s old port, and is really as impressive as it could possibly be.
