Baska is everything you imagine when one mentions a Mediterranean town on Croatian coast. It has many unique features, one of which is annual ‘lignjiada’ , a squid-hunting tournament dedicated to Saint Mikula. The festivity celebrates the custom of fishing these beings in local waters, and prepping them in the ways of local culinary traditions.

The competition is of international background, and the winners came from a crew of mixed nationalities (Croats and Slovenians). They managed to catch the impressive amount of 3,045 kilos of squid in a single day. Lignjijada also had a humanitarian side, due to a local initiative to help a boy called Teo, suffering from mobility challenges.

As one can see, waters of Baska are truly something special, especially when they produce dozens of tasty seafood meals .
