The Adriatic Times Sinke

A locality like no other, Ponikve is an intriguing submerged realm that appears only twice in a single year. It is a lake that forms in the valley next to Bakar Town, a coastal destination in Croatia’s Primorsko Goranska County. The lake forms quickly and withdraws quickly due to carst terrain that dominates in the area.

But while it lasts, Ponikve is a place like no other in Croatia. Divers that go underwater can view trees, grass fields, pathways and bushes as they were before the flood. It is a unique experience that is worthy of one’s dive, no matter the freezing temperatures.
