The Adriatic Times Sinke

Sea horses are not an uncommon sight in Adriatic waters. These unique creatures look charmingly odd, as if being visitors from distant planets. Yet, they are Earthlings alright, present in the seas for numerous ages. These animals can be adopted as pets, however they can be very demanding in terms of everyday feeding and precise conditions in aquariums that hold them. If being exposed to strong currents, the horses use their small tails to entangle themselves around underwater plants (you can only imagine how cute they look then). A lot of people are unaware that male sea horses are the one responsible for new generations, as they keep fertilized eggs in their body until reaching larva stage.  In other words, the males are being pregnant, as the one photographed above. The image was taken in the seas surrounding Krk Island.
