Sandra Nedeljko, the owner of and the chef at the restaurant Mamica located half way between Varaždin and Čakovec, is annoyed by the fact that people do not recognise and appreciate enough the quality of Međimurje cuisine and will generally decide for the less quality but more popular options. Her cooking proves every day she knows what she’s talking about.
Imagine a slow-food seven-course meal arranged in miniature traditional Međimurje dishes, or her Story of pork lard, recipe from the time of her grandpas. Bread and lard is served in numerous variations, with sugar, salt, paprika, and event mint and sometime fruit.
Since guests are biased to some foods, Sandra only reveals what they were eating after they have cleaned the plate. A good recipe will not only amaze the guests, it will also surprise them.
“Mamičino najfineše” (Mama’s finest) is a special part of the à la carte menu with about 10 of Sandra’s specialties.
