If Valentina Krpeta, the owner of Kneginečka hiža and the chef decided to serve only bread to the guests of this romantic cabin, it would be a feast to remember. What’s best, we are not even exaggerating in praising this much Valentina’s master piece – corn bread. She proves it is possible to present traditional cuisine typical of Zagorje and Međimurje in a modern way with her cheese štrukle (type of pastry typical of Zagorje), buckwheat cake (Croatian: hajdin gibanek), rump steak stuffed with cheese and wild garlic; gnocchi in minced lard and duck pâté. The only other place where Valentina feels so good besides the kitchen is her garden and the forest where she picks edible plants she uses in almost all of her meals.
If there is still someone who has not yet been persuaded to taste and truly enjoy Valentina’s meals, she will definitely win him over with her special meal arrangements. Who would ever think that daisies go well with rump steak, for instance.
