Inconspicuous, almost unnoticeable from the outside, located on a busy road leading through Brtonigla, this place will not attract an occasional passer by. Yet, this legendary tavern has such a good reputation that it finds its fans far out of the Istrian peninsula. The owner and chef Anton Kernjus will win you over with his genially simple concept of cuisine – everything here is focused around the open fireplace. All types of delicious meals are made in the old fireplace: grilled St. Jacob’s shells for starter; fish caught by the fishermen from Umag and prepared in the baking bell; house specialties: different meat prepared in the baking bell and grilled beefsteak… Even desserts, for instance, apple strudel, are prepared in the bakingbell! The atmosphere here is warm, relaxed, homey, so don’t be surprised if the guys at the next table start singing traditional songs making your heart melt.
