HBO’s much loved fantasy series ‘Game of Thrones’ has been renewed for a fourth season, which will debut on April 7th. Needless to say, fans are obsessively counting days until the premiere, expecting to indulge once again into a fable-like world full of conspiracies and intrigues.
Originally a set of novels written by George R.R. Martin, ‘Game of Thrones” became a worldwide phenomenon, as millions of viewers became instantly addicted to the fascinating worlds it provided. Even people who dislike fantasy thematic found something of an interest in the series, whether it was for interesting characters or close references to the factual European history.
But filming such series demanded good scenery for exteriors and interiors alike. The producers were aware that every detail needs to be perfect, so they decided to film the series in Croatia. With numerous medieval fortifications, stunning natural beauty and professional movie-making crews, it was not a difficult choice.
In a way, the country itself received a role in ‘Game of Thrones’, as Croatian locations became the sites of George R.R. Martin’s imagination, adding to spectacle and attractiveness of the series. Thanks to Dubrovnik, Split and many other corners of Croatia, the realms of Westeros and Essos will come to life once more.
The crew is aware of country’s influence on serial’s quality, and has released a video describing their experience of Croatia. You can see it below, with courtesy of HBO:
