Zagorje is home to many castles and fine historic manors, one of which is located in Konjscina, near sacred Marija Bistrica. The castle was once owned by the counts Konjski stands in a meadow near the town’s main road. Back in 1344, a famous battle against the Turks raged here. Just a few years ago, the castle was in near ruins, moss-covered and a refuge for snakes and other wildlife. But now it has been restored and is the site of an annual medieval fair and is also a prime spot for outdoor concerts and local food tastings.
